Plain City was orignally founded In 1818, as one of three Pleasant Valley’s in Ohio, residents there were in the hunt for a name change. In 1842, the Ohio legislature formally incorporated the village, but it wasn’t until 1877, where residents successfully changed the town's name. Plain City is named after the Big Darby Plain.
